John Grindey
COO / Crash Reconstruction Expert

Mr. John Grindey has 24 years of experience with the California Highway Patrol including seven years as a Motorcycle Officer and 10 years as a full-time member of the Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT).

Specializes in transportation accident documentation, analysis and reconstruction including the access and interpretation of data from Event Data Recorders (EDR) and Heavy Vehicle Event Data Recorders (HVEDR).

  • Investigated over 2,500 traffic accidents and have assisted in thousands of accident investigations.
  • Has been responsible for the systematic documentation, analysis and reconstruction of hundreds of automobile, heavy vehicle, motorcycle, bicycle and pedestrian accidents. Has also imaged hundreds of passenger and commercial vehicle Event Data Recorders (EDR).
  • Responded to a multitude of major and high profile transportation accidents in order to document and analyze vehicle damage and roadway physical evidence, as well as EDR’s, to reconstruct transportation accidents.
  • Testifies as an expert in the areas of accident reconstruction and analysis.

Research activities have included instrumented vehicle handling and performance tests & vehicle crash tests, as well as research in automobile safety, including the technology of passenger and commercial vehicle EDR’s. Has conducted a multitude of controlled testing for various accident analyses. Mr. Grindey has been consulted to review, discuss and, if necessary, testify to various police practices and procedures from his experience.
