Henry Scarnecchia, M.S., P.E.
Crash Reconstruction Engineer
Kettering University, Flint, Michigan
Deeply rooted in the automotive industry, Mr. Scarnecchia, a Detroit native, began his career with General Motors in 1993 as a co-op student, working through various engineering and manufacturing departments within North America. His undergraduate studies culminated in a fifth-year senior thesis project related to the methodologies of laboratory testing of vehicle suspension systems. As a new hire and through a twenty-one-year career with the company, Mr. Scarnecchia honed his engineering skills in a test laboratory, working on the development and validation of vehicle suspensions, body structures, exhaust systems, powertrain mounting systems and full vehicle testing. Working in what was originally the Chevrolet Central Office building, Mr. Scarnecchia experienced the transformation of a small hydraulics test laboratory to a state-of-the-art testing facility supporting the development of hybrid and electric vehicle technologies, as well as some FMVSS testing for the company’s global automotive market. In addition to supporting the pre-production vehicle development process, Mr. Scarnecchia also worked on special projects related to vehicle recalls, specifically developing and testing solutions for components that failed to meet product requirements yet made it into customers’ hands. Additionally, Mr. Scarnecchia worked on designing and conducting tests of vehicle components involved in civil litigation cases for the company’s legal department, assisting and educating the legal team.
Beginning in 2015, Mr. Scarnecchia ventured into the field of forensic engineering. Applying his vast knowledge of automotive systems, Mr. Scarnecchia began his training as an accident investigator and expert witness in the hopes of becoming a world-class accident reconstructionist. Utilizing courses taken in the field of accident investigation, reconstruction, EDR data imaging, and the specialized tools related to this field, Mr. Scarnecchia has become highly competent in the application of these skills to the interpretation and conveyance of these complex scenarios for his clients in the legal and insurance industries. Mr. Scarnecchia is a professional engineer in multiple states around the country, has provided expert testimony in depositions, is licensed in the operation of aerial drones, and is part of a rapid response team, able to quickly and efficiently collect accident data for his clients.
